Universities Ireland, the network of university presidents and vice-chancellors on the island of Ireland, is sponsoring a series of conferences to commemorate the centenary of key events in the history of modern Ireland ranging from the Ulster Covenant, through the First World War and the 1916 Rising, to the foundation of Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State. The third conference in the series took place in Belfast City Hall on Saturday 14 June, and was entitled ‘Reflecting on a decade of war and revolution in Ireland, 1912-1923: The road to war’. The conference also included a History Ireland ‘Hedge School’ chaired by Tommy Graham, editor of History Ireland.
