UCD launch digital multimedia edition of Joyce’s ‘Portrait of the artist as a young man’ to mark the centenary of its first publication

eventsindecAside from events such as the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme, 2016 also saw the centenary of a major cultural landmark: James Joyce’s novel A portrait of the artist as a young man. As part of its own Decade of Centenaries initiative, UCD have launched a major new digital multimedia edition of the novel, based on the first edition published in New York in 1916, which can be read online or downloaded to Kindle. The text can also be downloaded as an audiobook recorded by Barry and Sam McGovern and, last but not least, the site contains a multimedia guide to the Dublin navigated by Stephen Dedalus in the novel. Explore the UCD multimedia edition of Joyce’s Portrait, and read Ed Mulhall’s account of its composition and publication, from Century Ireland.
