Poetry as Commemoration (Kilkenny/Tipperary/Wexford)

Poetry as Commemoration workshops coming to Kilkenny
Dates: Wednesdays 8th & 15th of March
Time: 2.30pm-4.30pm.
Location: Kilkenny City Branch Library, John’s Quay.
Poet and fiction writer, Mary O’Donnell, will lead two Poetry as Commemoration workshops at Kilkenny City Branch Library during which participants will respond to local and national archival material from the War of Independence & the Civil War. Afterwards they will be invited to submit their work to a special Poetry as Commemoration archive preserved in UCD Special Collections. Participants who have family stories or materials relating to the revolutionary period are invited to share these, but no family connection is necessary and all are welcome.

Poetry as Commemoration workshops coming to Tipperary
Dates: Tuesdays 14 & 21 March
Time: 6-8pm
Location: The Source Arts Centre, Thurles Cathedral St, Thurles
Poet David McLoghlin will lead two Poetry as Commemoration workshops using materials from Tipperary Local Studies Department as creative prompts. During the first workshop Librarian Mary Guinan Darmody will present local primary source material from the War of Independence & the Civil War. Participants are invited to respond to the items in their writing under the guidance of David McLoghlin. Afterwards they will be invited to submit their work to a special Poetry as Commemoration archive held in UCD Special Collections. Participants who have family stories or materials relating to the revolutionary period are invited to share these, but no family connection is necessary and all are welcome.

Poetry as Commemoration workshops coming to Wexford
Dates: Mondays 20 & 27 March
Time: 3pm – 5pm
Location: Wexford County Archives, 6A Ardcavan Business Park, Ardcavan, Co. Wexford.
Poet Mark Granier will lead two Poetry as Commemoration workshops using materials selected from Wexford County Archives by archivist Gráinne Doran. Participants will respond to local material from the War of Independence & the Civil War and afterwards they will be invited to submit their writing to a special Poetry as Commemoration archive held in UCD Special Collections. Participants who have family stories or materials relating to the revolutionary period are invited to share these, but no family connection is necessary and all are welcome.
