The University of Limerick has launched a real time window into the past with a dynamic archive project “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary – An Irish Story of the Great War” officially launched today by Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD. The initiative project involves an active online archive following the lives of a single family in weekly online bulletins throughout the First World War. The diaries, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia of the Armstrong family of Moyaliffe Castle, County Tipperary, provide a fascinating insight on the social, physical and emotional impact of the conflict on individuals, families and society.
Attending the launch were, Prof. Paul McCutcheon, Vice President and Registrar, UL, Gobnait O’Riordan, Director of the UL Glucksman Library and Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD. Pictures supplied by the Glucksman Library UL.
