13 November 2013: Launch of 1916 oral history collection, Dublin Castle
On 13 November 2013 Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, launched the ‘1916 Oral History Collection’ by Irish Life and Lore in Dublin Castle. The project, which was supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, involved the collection of oral testimonies from surviving relatives of figures involved in the Easter Rising of 1916. There was a presentation by Maurice O’Keeffe of Irish Life and Lore, who gave a preview of some of the recordings.
Afterwards Minister Deenihan met many of the interviewees, all of whom were presented with an individual CD copy of the recordings. The launch was accompanied by an exhibition of photographs from the 1916 Rising, provided by Mercier Press.
