11 November 2013: Armistice Sunday service, St Patrick’s Cathedral

10 NovemberPresident Michael D. Higgins attended an ecumenical service of remembrance to commemorate Ireland’s war dead organised by the Royal British Legion in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin. Members of the public and veterans were present. The lessons were read by Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, and the Rt Hon. Jeffrey Donaldson M.P., of the Democratic Unionist Party.

 

President Higgins and Major General David O’Morchoe, president of the Royal British Legion in the Republic, laid wreaths at the war memorial at the north transept of the cathedral. Former army chaplain and rector of Bunclody Revd M.R.N. Stevenson preached the sermon.
