6 February 2018: Suffrage and society: Then and now: Reflections on the Representation of the People Act, 1918
On Tuesday 6 February 2018, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) in conjunction with Queens University Belfast and the Ulster Society of Irish Historical Studies hosted a full day conference examining the history and context of the act. The conference will explored some of the key archival sources and research relating to suffrage in Ireland, and concluded with a panel discussion on the contemporary relevance of suffrage to society today.
Confirmed speakers included Marie Coleman (QUB), Margaret Ward (QUB), Diane Urquhart (University of Liverpool), Sonja Tiernan (Liverpool Hope University) and Aideen McGinley (Galway 2020).
The conference will take place from 10am-4pm in PRONI.
