On Friday 5 and Saturday 6 May the Moore Institute, NUI Galway, in association with Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society and Roscommon County Council Library Service and Heritage Office, presented a conference entitled ‘1917 Centenary Reflections’. Taking the North Roscommon bye-election of February 1917 as a starting point, this conference explored Irish life in the pivotal year of 1917 – between the Easter Rising and the end of the First World War – from a wide range of perspectives.
The conference was held in Gleason’s Townhouse and the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon. Speakers included Mary McAuliffe (UCD), John Borgonovo (UCC), Marie Coleman (QUB), and Padraig Yeates (SIPTU). Learn more about the full programme.
