5-6 June 2015: ‘Universities in revolution and state formation’, Newman House, Dublin 2
On 5-6 June 2015 UCD hosted a major international conference entitled ‘Universities in revolution and state formation’. The event was open to the public and was held in Newman House, 85-86 St Stephen’s Green. The conference discussed the role played by universities, both their staff and students, in social, cultural and especially political change, from the early modern to the contemporary. It formed part of the University’s Decade of Centenaries programme which was launched by Minister for Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphries in April. Funded by the Irish Research Council and UCD Research, the conference discussed Sicilian, French, British, Indian, and Irish cases, including that of the Easter Rising of 1916.
