On Thursday 4 October a new exhibition on ‘The country house and the Great War’ went on display in Maynooth University. The exhibition is curated by the Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates (CSHIHE), Maynooth University and the OPW-Maynooth University Archive & Research Centre (OMARC). The exhibition is being hosted to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, and explores the experience of the Great War from the perspective of the Irish landed gentry. The exhibition includes material from more than ten aristocratic families and display material from the estate archives of Ballindoolin House and Airfield.
The launch was launched by Prof. Marian Lyons and was preceded by a talk at 6pm in Maynooth University Library by Dr Ian d’Alton, entitled “The unreasoning adventure”: How the Great War took the Irish gentry prisoner’, and a reception.
The exhibition will be on display in the Russell Library, Maynooth University, Co. Kildare. For contact [email protected].
