UntitledOn Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October 2016 the fourth annual James Fintan Lalor Autumn School, entitled ‘1916: Looking back, looking forward, took place in Portlaoise, Co. Laois. This was a weekend of drama, music, debates and political discussion inspired by the writings of James Fintan Lalor. As the programme of commemoration for the 1916 Centenary draws to a close, this year’s school reflected on the year’s activities and consider what the future will bring. This incorporated a wide range of debates, lectures, exhibitions and performances, including a History Ireland ‘Hedge School’ debate. Participants included Diarmaid Ferriter (UCD), Fearghal McGarry (QUB), Conor Brady, Caitriona Crowe (NAI) Eve Morrison, Tommy Graham (History Ireland) Robert Ballagh, Conor Mc Namara (NUI Galway), Mary McAuliffe (UCD), Susan McKay, Brendon Deacy and Lorraine Comer (NMI).
