At 7.00pm on Thursday 28 August Dr. Elaine Callinan (St. Patrick’s College, Carlow) delivered a lecture in Bunclody Public Library on ‘Ireland and the Great War’. This will discuss how the war started, the condition of Ireland on the eve of war, and explored some aspects of the experience of the c. 210,000 Irishmen who enlisted in the British armed forces between 1914 and 1918.
