27 April 2016: Lecture on ‘"The triumph of failure": Desmond Ryan (1893-1964): writing the history of the Easter rising’, Royal Irish Academy, Dublin 2
On Wednesday 27 April 2016 the Royal Irish Academy presented the fourth in its lunchtime lecture series on ‘Intellectual life in Ireland 1910-1920’. This series accompanies an exhibition on the same theme. Lawrence White of the RIA Dictionary of Irish Biography will give lecture entitled ‘”The triumph of failure”: Desmond Ryan (1893-1964): writing the history of the Easter rising’.
The writings of Desmond Ryan (1893-1964) were particularly influential in shaping the story of the Easter rising and its participants through the first half of the twentieth century. This talk explored the historiography of the rising through the work of Desmond Ryan.
The lecture took place at 1pm in Academy House, Dawson St, Dublin 2.
