24 November 2018: ‘Martin Moffat VC and the liberation of Ledegem, 14 October 1918’, Birr, Co. Offaly

On Saturday 24 November 2018 Birr Library hosted a talk by Denis Kirby of the Leinster Regiment Association, entitled ‘Martin Moffat VC and the liberation of Ledegem, 14 October 1918’. After four years of German occupation the 2nd Battalion of the Prince of Wales’ Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) liberated the town of Ledegem in Belgium, after which Martin Moffat, originally from Sligo, was awarded the Victoria Cross for his role in the battle. The home depot of the Leinster Regiment was in Birr.

The lecture took place in Birr Library, Birr, Co. Offaly, at 11.30am.
