The event was aimed at both academics and the general public and focused on the literary career of UCD lecturer and 1916 leader Thomas MacDonagh (1878-1916). It had a particular emphasis on MacDonagh’s involvement in the periodical The Irish Review (1911-1914), how this reflected the cultural revival of the early twentieth century, and how this overlapped with the Easter Rising.

Speakers included Cathal Goan (former director-general, RTÉ), Shane Kenna (16 Lives: Thomas MacDonagh), Declan Kiberd (Notre Dame), and Conor Mulvagh (UCD)
