From 16 to 20 November, as part of the Library of Trinity College Dublin’s programme of activities, the Great War was acknowledged through a dynamic light installation entitled The lamps are going out all over Europe. We shall not see them lit again in our lifetime. The title isa quote from the British Foreign Secretary Edward Grey, made on learning of the imminent outbreak of the First World War.

The names and portraits of some of the 471 Trinity students, staff and alumni who fell in the First World War weree projected onto the East Face of the 1937 Reading Room every evening from 16-20 November from 6pm-10pm. This initiative was presented as part of the Explore your Archive campaign, Library Ireland Week and European Academic Heritage Day.
