14-23 November 2018: Exhibition on ‘World War One: The Westmeath connection’, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath
Between Wednesday 14 November and Wednesday 23 November 2018, to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, Westmeath County Council presented an exhibition in Mullingar entitled ‘World War One: The Westmeath connection’. This exhibition was an initiative of the Westmeath Heritage Forum. It offered insights not only into the sheer scale of the global conflict, but gives information on the experiences of soldiers from Westmeath who served (such as Victoria Cross winner Maurice Dease), the impact of the war on Westmeath, the units of the British Army based in Edwardian Athlone and Mullingar, and individuals such as the poet Michael Walsh from Castlepollard, and his tribute to his fallen brother, After Ypres.
‘World War One: The Westmeath connection’ was on display until 23 November in the Atrium of Áras an Chontae, Mount Street, Mullingar.
