11 November 2018: Events to mark centenary of 1918 armistice, Longford
On Sunday 11 November a number of commemorative events took place in Longford Town to mark the centenary of the armistice that ended the First World War. A service took place in St John’s (Church of Ireland) at 10am, followed by an ecumenical service and remembrance ceremony in the Market Square at 11am (gathering from 10.45am). There wias also a remembrance mass celebrated in St Mel’s Cathedral. An exhibition on ‘Longford and the Great War’ was also be open at the Temperance Hall, New St, from 11.30am to 4pm.
These events were organised by Longford County Council and the Peter Keenan Branch of the Organisation of National Ex-service Personnel.
